And A Roll Tide to That!
______One day, I will grow sick of brightly colored socks that scream in your face louder than sleep-deprived children do in the middle of a morning church service. One day, I may not be attracted to the most obnoxious lip stain in Sephora. One day, I may have a grey hair. Alas, today is not that day, and I shall continue donning the brightest of reds and most pleasant of prints.
______But let's not lie here--vibrance is a dandy quality that all can enjoy. Be colorful and be bright, my pleasant little friends. You were made to stick out, just like a pair o' nipples through a sheer silk blouse on a blustery winter day.
______(Why were you wearing a sheer silk blouse on a blustery winter day?)
______Not my problem. You should have checked the weather.
______One of my favorite things to do on the University of Alabama's campus is shout, "Roll Tide!" from the balconies of the art buildings when a University tour group waddles through the art quad. I've always received a bustling, "Roll Tide!" in response, which is comforting as much as it is hilarious.
______It's funny because even as a Junior, I still haven't attended one of the games yet (hey folks, I made a good amount of moolah off last week's ticket, can you blame me? That's a butt-ton of gumballs). It's also funny because I am an art major, the lowest denomination of student at the grand University of Alabama. Don't get me wrong, I do love the benefits it gives our school, but I've never been an avid football fan myself; however, I will be spirited and shout at the wee folk when the opportunity is presented. Doing so makes me feel like a snotty old king who is perched atop the art buildings, shouting gleeful things toward the peasants below... ah... ahaha... peasants...
______The phrase "Roll Tide" has become a verb, a mood, an adjective, a synonym for many phrases. It can mean, "Damn straight!" just as much as it means, "I fervently agree" and, "I have no idea why you would do that, but okay, we'll go with it." It's all about the tone of your voice.
______Have a very Roll Tide weekend, you guys. Be sure to Roll Tide.

You are always so hilarious. Butt-ton, roll tide, mention of nipples--amazing! And, as I've mentioned, I quite fancy your sock collection. Keep it up! And this red/white/black look is really fun indeed!
ReplyDeleteYou get football tickets you can sell for $100? Why would you ever go to a game? forget gumballs... buy new shoes :)
ReplyDeleteIt's true, our styles will change, and someday you will probably think "I wore red socks? I must have lost my mind!" but for now, just enjoy it!
Chic on the Cheap
Awww yeah, so many gumballs! Roll tide. (Am I doing it right?) I have never been able to care about football or understand why I am supposed to.
ReplyDeleteBright colors 5ever. I loooove your blazers and your shoes and the magical thing you did with your hair!
this is so great!!!!! you look awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove that dress, its adorable! Also I love the pops of red from the blazer and socks. You look great!

Hi Ali, your outfit brought such vibrance to my day, the bold geometrics balanced out by the most beautiful red coat really works wonders. Thanks for the explanation of Roll Tide, at my uni, i didn't even know we had sports fields, let alone sports team. Then I saw them play soccer on tv one day...big revelation. lol. Thanks for your insightful comment, have a splendid weekend doll!
ReplyDeleteHa! peasants. :) that sounds like fun, the shouting. American football confuses me to know end... although I recently tried to explain Aussie Rules Football to someone and gave up halfway through...so...meh.
ReplyDeletecute outfit Ali... and, I think you should most certainly STILL wear bright socks when you possibly have grey hair...and still shout out 'Roll Tide' to people. :D
Hahaha you know I can't get on board with "roll tide". The most annoying one is "war eagle" over at Auburn though. Their mascot is a TIGER. Just why. It's not a verb either, even though it's used as one. Why? At least "Go dawgs" makes sense (even if dogs is spelled dawgs). :) I know what you mean about being at a football school and not being a huge football fan though. I cared the most when I was in band and had to be at every single game, but that was still a small amount compared to most. I'm just not into sports in general.
ReplyDeleteBuuuuut anyway. This outfit is the coolest ever. You know I love bright red anything so your jacket is fantastic. I absolutely love your checkerboard dress too. Such a perfect outfit.
wow! im inlove with your look really! and that bright red blazer really suits you! and man, you are one hilarious gal :)

This would have to be my favourite ever outfit of yours. It is just such a striking and standout combination. It's a genius idea to wear that skirt and jacket together and the accessories are outstanding. I seriously want this whole outfit for myself. I hope you never grow tired of your fun and signature socks. They add so much. I recemently bought some little socks with frills and I am hoping I can incorporate them into my outfits.

That blazer looks great on you! Like it was made for you. And I love the red with the black and white, I might be using this as inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteyou look so lovely! pretty xx
ReplyDeleteOh, Ali. You never fail to make me laugh! I love your similes and artful writing in general. This outfit is totally kickin though--who can go wrong with a bright red blazer and checkered dress! Glad to see those classy oxfords again after the paint mishap you mentioned earlier (I hope those are the right pair haha).
ReplyDeleteOh, I totally feel you on theh football games. I went to a high school one in middle school and haven't been back since...let's just say I'd much rather show school spirit by attending theatre shows and student council events. They're just as worthy of attendance and much more enjoyable for me.
Roll tide! I've gotten some mailings from the University of Alabama, so I've gotten familiar with that phrase. Your post titles are so creative, girl!
Have a happy Thanksgiving and best of luck with art!
LOVE the black and white print.

I LOVE the way you always dress to stand out. The print of this dress is so bold, and I love your bright in-your-face red socks. You have an amazing style!
ReplyDeleteUmm, this outfit is stunning! And I love a blogger who can combine fashion and humor into one post. To me, I always see them as obviously connected, but so many people apparently haven't figured out how to have both!
ReplyDeleteRoll Tide :)
