New Year, New Dress, New Battle Scar
______Happy 2013! How did I start the New Year, you ask? By getting the stitches taken out of my chin. You might be thinking, "What?! What stitches, you crazy girl?"
______The stitches from the fight I was in where I beat up some punk who thought it would be funny to steal my toaster strudel.
______...Kidding. I don't like toaster strudels.
______But I'm not kidding about stitches. The last post I made would have pictured me with my stitches, but those pictures were prepared before my little accident. Here's the scoop: I was riding my bike one morning about a week ago, as I do, and for whatever reason, I rode straight into a parked car (during the 2.83 mile mark, to be exact), hit my head on the rear windshield, hit my chin, hit some other body parts, and toppled down to the pavement while feeling a lot like television static.
______I sat there in kind of a daze for a while, looking around a bit, hoping maybe someone would pity me and come out to see if I was okay, but it was 35 degrees and Alabama people just don't come outside when it's 35 degrees. I glanced down and saw that there was blood all over my mom's zebra scarf which I decided to use instead of my own that day (sorry, mom).
______To be honest, the accident only made my already freezing bike ride more frustrating and I simply wanted to continue on--I couldn't really feel anything but a headache so why bother checking, right?--but I didn't even know where the blood was coming from, so I grudgingly walked my bike back home. Once there, my mom made it known that my chin was split open, when I was thinking that maybe it was a nosebleed or something... Strange, how there was no pain.
______So to the doctor's we went, and I got 7 magical stitches after waiting for half an hour in a room full of obnoxious sick people. Thankfully, my stitches aren't really visible straight on since the split is kind of below my chin. I got kind of lucky with the placement of them. I then asked the doctor when I would be able to ride my bike again.
______"Oh, heck, you could go at it later this afternoon," he replied matter-of-factly. My mother looked horrified.
______However, upon arriving home, I discovered I wouldn't be going on a bike ride later that afternoon--my super lovely brother was kind enough to take my bike to get fixed while I was getting stitches, only to find out it was completely totalled. Front fork out of place. Tire spokes bent. Gears shot. Sacrificed to the bike gods, basically.
______I am getting a new bike, though. A Sirrus Sport hybrid in gleaming white. My dad was ever so kind as to make the purchase himself, and right after Christmas at that. I got lucky with a lot of things, even though what happened was quite unlucky. I'm just very thankful that I have such a supportive and loving family!
______And my resolutions?
______Don't ride into parked cars. Read some books that aren't related to school. Stop biting my nails. Purge negative people from my life and Tumblr. Buy more high-quality pieces like this lovely velvet burnout dress that will last me longer opposed to those that will fall apart within a year or two. I spent $110 on this dress, which is absolutely crazy, but I'm absolutely crazy in love with it. I think the purchase of that Guess coat has opened my eyes to how much nicer the quality and fit of clothing becomes and how much sturdier the material gets as the price increases. This realization could be a good or bag thing. We'll see!

Oh no my dear!! If it helps you still look positively perfect even with your stitches. I would not have noticed if you hadn't pointed them out! Gah, this is what scares me about bike riding though-one is so exposed to falls and such. This dress is definitely a special piece! The color and pattern are amazing and I can see how it would be versatile as well. I've started buying more high quality items as well-makes one feel all grown up! haha. :) speedy recovery my dear!
You poor little Ali! I'm glad your injuries weren't too severe and you are going to get right back on that horse, er bike!
I think your resolutions are good ones, we can all stand to invest in quality pieces and purge negative people from our lives! (and also not hit cars)
Chic on the Cheap
Ahhh what a bummer about your chin! I hope it heals up great!! Although I kind of wish it really had been caused by a fight over a toaster strudel. That would have been a story that would be told for centuries to come! :)
I'm sorry to hear about your stitches, that doesn't sound like fun for NYE. That dress is so elegant and stylish with the tights. Love the way you write, it's very funny and your blog is great. Following you now,
xo from San Francisco

That dress is so beautiful, I really like the pattern and the velvetyness of it:) Such a good investment! Stiches?! Sounds scary, but i'm glad you are all good now. And wow a new bike, I have a white bike too :D
omg'd, what an ordeal! you really had a big gash in your chin. sometimes when the body experiences something traumatic it goes into shock and you don't feel the pain. so glad you're doing better. glad you got a new bike and you're not discouraged from riding it after that accident. that's good! you picked yourself UP and ready to try again. i believe in buying quality pieces of clothing too.

Ali!?!? You rode into a parked car?? Sounds like one of my friend's horror story - only she RAN into a parked car and had to wear a sling for a month. Aha, she had to explain that story several times.
Be careful out there though when you get the new bike!
Ooooh, and I like how you're investing in such lovely pieces. That dress is truly gorgeous!

Phahaha, good one. Bumping into cars is a nice way to start the new year :-D. I think it never hurts because of adrenaline, you have to calm down first, that's when it starts hurting :-D
We have obnoxious sick people here too, mostly everone :-D
Glad to see your're better and getting a new bike, and pretty as always ofc ^_^

my gosh, your story sounds like a really scary one! and especially because I have those periods when strange things happen to me.. I mean I fall over like every other day, get bruises etc. hate those things! and those stitches of yours.. pretty horrible, I must say :P

OMMGGG Ali!!! I'm so so sorry that you got hurt like this. It sounds horrible!!! I'm so glad to hear that you are ok and didn't get any more hurt than you did. Like you said, you are at least lucky that the stitches are truly not that visible at all where they are. I'm just so happy to see that you are ok and weren't seriously hurt.
PS: That dress is tooootally worth the investment because it looks AMAZING on you ;)

Insurance and stuff. Okay, that's the practical lady in me speaking ^^ I just want to say that I LOVE this dress! The color and print are simply gorgeous and I love how you kept the whole look so basic :) Hope your chin heals soon! xo Nikki

Hi dear, sorry to hear about your stitches, something similar happened to me a few years ago. Try using silver scar plasters, you can't even see it afterwards. Beautiful dress
No problem, I remember how anxious I was when it happened to me, you sound really brave about the 7 stitches, I was most definitely not, lol!
Oh my goodness gracious Ali! I'm so glad to hear you're okay and able to write about it so light-heartedly. Your doctor made me giggle a bit. I definitely love your resolutions. Especially the riding into parked cars one and the one about purging negative people from your life. Those are two stellar resolutions.
I also recently discovered that more expensive clothes are nicer and fit better and last longer. It has not ruined my bank account yet but I have started buying more cheap jewellery to make up for the lack of cheap clothes.
And finally I am glad you bought that dress because everything about it is perfect for you. The colour, the cut, everything. You look beautiful!
love ur dress!!:)

Hi darling! Thank you so much for stopping by! You look absolutely gorgeous, i adore your dress! Sorry to hear about your stitches! But actually, something very similar happened to me before! When I was 12 I was getting out of the shower and slipped.. and fell and hit my chin as well! Zero pain as well. I completely agree with you. just a lot of blood.. and off to the emergency room we go! i only had 3 stitches though, but the placement is exactly where yours is! Creepy but cool!

I'm a huge fan of your battle wound. I'm pretty sure that car will learn never to cross you again. It won't DARE be on the same block as you ever again. Just scowl at it and remind it that you're still standing.
I adore this dress on you, on another note. The pattern and fabric are both gorgeous and they compliment you perfectly. It really is great to invest in great, timeless pieces that will last you for years. When it comes to simple basics though, I always go for cheap. :)
Also, one last thing (since I really need to get to bed, haha), you should definitely do a photoshoot with your bike! haha
Lol...It wasn't as eventful as yours, just a fall from low BP, which I should keep better track of :)
I love that dres, dear!
You look amazing! =D

Awww!! That must have been terrifying. It's good to know you're all better now. The look on your mom's face would have been the same on my mom's! Haha.
Very pretty dress. I like the colors. Nice shoes! :)
That dress is gorgeous, wow! And I don't see that scar so much, don't worry about it. Glad you're okay, though! xoxo
