The Beekeeper
______Last night, I went to the Schaeffer Crawfish Boil in downtown Birmingham. It's basically this huge gathering of people in front of an outdoor concert stage complete with boxes upon boxes of crawfish (and some other food, and all those cheesy light up bunny ears and lightsabers and stuff that you kind of want but don't want to admit you want).
______My friend and his dad invited me to come along with them it since they had an extra ticket, and although usually crowd things freak me out a little, I'm so very glad I went! It was an extraordinary event, and I even ventured out to taste test crawfish for the very first time. If you've never had them before, I suppose the best way to describe them is similar to something with the texture of a very squishy jellyfish and the taste of chicken--odd, but surprisingly scrumptious! The beady little black eyes stared into my soul a few times, but I did my best to look away and remind myself that they are mere relatives to cockroaches... Unfortunately, they are very cute relatives.
______There was a lineup of bands that were to play, some that I didn't know, but two that I did: Train and Flo Rida. At first I was all, "Flo Rida? Well, all right," but then as he began to sing all of his songs, I realized that a) I recognized each one of them and b) I could sing along word for word. They were extremely catchy and the people amongst us were extremely bouncy, and it was just a lovely, bouncy time, one full of synchronized light flashes and flailing hands.
______And then when Train came on stage it was a bit awe-inspiring since I adore Train (and now I adore Train even more). Seeing a person perform their songs in real life makes things so much more real, mainly because you can physically see the heart and soul that a person pours in their music. It's more than impressive. The lights suited all the songs so well and now it's no wonder to me why people get so caught up over going to concerts... They're just so inspiring and visually pleasing--literally moving, breathing works of art!
______So yeah! I hadn't ever been to any concerts before last night, and so being able to go see more than one band was quite rad, especially ones that are so well-known. It was a most excellent way to ease my mind into the summer mindset (and hopefully the artfully productive mindset as well!).

the crawfish ball sounds deliciously kitsch! and what a cute outfit! :D the hair is pretty spesh too ali! :D
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is so cute! I love the little bit of stripes layered under the dress (I HAVE to try this) and the booties are really cute too.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to a concert because it seems so much more fun than sitting in my room and just listening. But wow I can't believe you got to hear Train in person! AND while eating crawfish. Too awesome.
Hahaha, little eyes always startle me too, that's why I carefully remove the heads every time :D
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great time during the concert. Concerts are nice most of the time, when people aren't smelly, like most of the concerts I've been to :D
Oh, such a lovely outfit. I can't express how much I love yellow and this look!!!!! <3
love your braids...looks really cute that way, especially with that slightly girly skirt...I say slightly because I really like the simplicity of it...looks one of those dresses that can be worn 10 different ways.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had fun:) I love everything about food and I think it is always fun to try something new!
I love the stripes with this yellow dress! And those boots are awesome. What a fun look!

Sounds like it was a great day full of some pretty awesome firsts. Nothing quite like seeing a band you love give an amazing live performance - and maybe there is also nothing quite like having your dinner stare down your soul, but I'm not familiar with that myself.
ReplyDeleteI love your yellow dress - totally reminds me I need to wear mine more - it is so cute with stripes!
Chic on the Cheap
Omigoodness Ali, this outfit is so perfect, and I love the title ;)
ReplyDeleteMan, I have never tried crawfish but I did try lobster once. I kind of thought of it as "salt water flavored meat" haha! Have not had it since, but at least I can say that I've tried it!
Love what you did with this outfit, it is just so fun and unique and fantastic. Also, your hair is absolutely gorgeous love that. I've been wanting to try a style like that lately.

Your dress is adorable and I LOVE your hair-do here! I'll bet you were the best dressed gal in all of crasfish-fest-land. I had to laugh that Flo Rida played there, but it sounds like so much fun!

Welp, its a good thing I'm allergic to seafood, because these little crawfish bug-eyes sound creepy!
ReplyDeleteAh wow, love this cheerful canary yellow on you Ali, and ooooh, those boots just tickle me pink (oi...my inner old lady is coming out in expressions like "tickle me pink" now...)
Anyway, I can't believe you saw Flo Rida and Train for your first concert! That's so awesome. And I know, nothing beats a live show. It makes me like the artist more. My last concert was Jake Owen, and man, that guy is just amazing <3

That sounds like such a fun time. I love your hair.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I'm going to have to warn you that I'm going to duplicate this outfit this weekend or next week. Well, except for your adorably awesome braids because my braids always turn out like a hot mess.
ReplyDeleteSecond of all, crawfish! I don't have the guts to try it but it doesn't sound too bad from the way you described it. But it still gives me the shivers.
I usually don't like listening to singers like Flo Rida in concert but it's always a million times more fun when you know all the words and can sing along! That's kind of why I'm tempted to see someone like Taylor Swift in concert. So jealous you saw Train though! I'll pretend like I was there with you. :)
It sounds like you had a lovely time! I've never had crawfish before, but it's definitely something I'd love to try :) Your outfit is great! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the braids in your hair! the boots you are wearing are so, so wonderful too!

ReplyDeleteI would NEVER have picked up those boots but after seeing you style them now I really want a pair, hee hee. I also just adore the way you wear your socks pulled up higher than your shoes!
ReplyDeleteFlo rider! how funny! and crawfish....trying think if i've tried that before.
ReplyDeleteI am loving this outfit, the colours and your hair in braids!! xxx
