Finding a Happy Place

"Sunbathing," April 2010, acrylic.

After about three weeks of working on this thing, I have finally completed it! I have an excuse for my slowness.. this is only the second painting I've done and it's the biggest one I've done. It measures somewhere around 30 inches tall by 18 inches wide or so (don't know the exact dimensions right now since it's at school). But yay, I'm just glad it's done! Now, maybe I can work faster and post some other artsies! I also think this painting sort of made me realize what kind of concentration I'll be focusing on in AP Studio Art for my senior yea next year: finding happiness in tough situations. For example, you can be sitting on a sun burning your butt off and not being able to breathe but still be happy as a dandy little clam. Of course that's possible, of course. Right? Right. Yeah. Glad we understand one another. High five right now. Good, nice. Fine work, lovely work, yes.

(Psssst. I know the flute is backwards. This is sad, seeing as how I played the flute in 6th grade band.. but hey, we can pretend it's a special left handed flute or something. She's sitting on a sun for gosh sakes!)

Oh my god.
Absolutely amazing!!! You ARE ready for studio art now! Have you seen the AP Art website? They have some portfolios showcased there. Yours is amazing and is completely up to par. I am in Studio Art, but I'm taking the test next year!
OMIGOD. I swear, I love it. Seriously.

Mindblowing.

The colors and depth of this painting are amazing-- it must look even more amazing in person! I tried to do some painting when I was in high school, and you handled the material and blending very nicely. My only question: why a flute? If I was chillin' (hawhaw) on the sun, I'd totally bring a tuba. :D

PS: I left you a blog award in my latest post-- chchcheck it out if ya wanna!

this is such a gorgeous painting and i love the colors and the fading in it! her feet are my favorite part. i can't wait to see more of your work; it's seriously fantastic. and i like to think of her as skillful for being able to play that flute backwards. what a baller. :P

Oh wow, what a painting! Zooming in just makes it all the more awesome. I love the gradients and the details in the sky, and those feet are just too brilliant! I'd love to know the deep hidden meanings behind this painting :D
