Back to Basics

______This outfit was put together after reading this post over at Joyful Outfits! The lovely Joyce challenged her readers to dress up the basic but lovely combination of a white t-shirt and a black skirt. It's been quite some time since I've actually worn a white shirt and black skirt together, so it was fun to finally play around with them again! Is it embarrassing to say that I actually had to make a trip to TJ Maxx to buy a plain white shirt for this? Yeah, I'm lacking a bit in the basics department... but now I can finally cross that off my to do list and say that I have one. I had a few outfits in mind for dressing up this ensemble but settled for this one here--basically, lots of gold accessories and a zebra clutch for a punch of pattern.

______After taking these pictures and arriving home, my mother and I spotted this teeny-tiny baby birdy hopping ever so awkwardly in our yard. He was so precious and so still! And so vulnerable. He would have been so easy to catch.

______No, I wasn't planning on eating him.

______...Well, I would be lying if I said I didn't at least consider it. He would have made a lovely nugget.

______I jest. I had no intentions of feasting anything but my eyes and my lens upon this tiny wonder. All I wanted to do to this little fellow was take some pictures of him. He made for a fabulous model, probably 'cause he was scared stiff with the thought that I was a dinosaur who was about to eat him. His mother, who I soon noticed was nearby and flapping around rather angrily, probably thought the same thing about me; thus, I left the two to reunite after a few final parting shops. As soon as I was out of view, the tiny bird and its flustered mother hopped toward a shrubbery, disappearing into its shrubbery-ness.

Hahaha, oh man, that last shot of the birdy's butt made me laugh. I was like "Of course Ali would take a picture of that..."
Anyway, love your take on Joyce's challenge! The zebra print really does add a cool touch of color. And the gold plated necklace is awesome!
And you're not the only one who was scrambling for these basics...luckily I unearthed a plain white tee at the last minute, but I thought I was going to have to go shopping for one too! Crazy...I need to invest in some basic pieces...

What a wonderful outfit! I love how it's so simple, but so put together at the same time. Cuuuute! I also lack basics though, which is problematic now that I have the urge to try and recreate this outfit!
And oh man, that baby bird! Holy cow (how bird?) What an adorable surprise :)

haha, his little down turned beak makes him look so grumpy!

love the classic black and white, and i too once had to run to tjs just to get a simple white tee, since i had none.

love that awesome cuff, gold accessories on black and white are the best.

You have such long, amazing legs that you are able to pull off wearing gladiator sandals with a short skirt. LUCKY. I have midget legs, so I almost need to wear heels with a skirt, or the skirt will overwhelm me. Color me jealous!

I really like the gold details, especially the cuff!
This birdy is so adorable, I can totally understand that you had to take a picture of his fluffy butt, I love that, too! (Also fluffy butts of dogs and cats) When I was a child, I found such a birdy as well, but it was too small to fly, it probably fell out of the nest. So I took it home and together my mother we took care of it for some months :)
