Fairy Circle

Ephemeral PieceEphemeral Piece

______Hello, my precious and darling citizens! It feels as if I've been gone for decades; alas, I have apparently only been missing for half a fortnight!

______I've been bustling with activity this past week, and thus my days have blended into nights and back into days again. I've even been (gasp) staying up past my bedtime of ten o' clock. Yeah, when my bedtime is interrupted, shit gets real. I've practically been living in the art buildings on campus. There's even a couch nested against a vending machine on the third floor in case I ever feel the need to have a one-man slumber party. Let's hope that never becomes a conclusion to my pitiful artist lifestyle.

______So, all that you see here is essentially for a drawing class.

______....Yeah, what? How does this have anything to do with a drawing class? I was a tad bit confused about it, too. The class is called Drawing Concepts, and my teacher is a rad art dude, a man who I fear, admire, and respect at the same time. This class has been reigning all things synonymous with havoc on my puny little mind, and after trying out a truckload of weird things and scrawling pages upon pages of ideas for this assignment, I have finally conceptualized this performance-slash-temporary-installation piece.

______We are to create a work that's ephemeral--think Andy Goldsworthy and his installations tempered entirely from things found in nature, or perhaps you've heard of the famed Spiral Jetty sand sculpture. Temporary works. In the moment. Something that will never be viewed the same way twice. An experience opposed to something that is made to last, like a painting or a sculpture.

Flower7Ephemeral Piece

______"Something you won't get attached to, since people become too attached to the things they create, opposed to the process of the creation," is essentially what my art teacher said to explain such a mind-boggling piece of temporary art. After having a couple nights of sweaty dreams over this assignment, a feasible idea finally found its way into my mind (via a sweaty dream, nonetheless). I drove home eagerly this morning, stabbed some sharped sticks into the ground, courtesy of my dear father's strong mustache and stronger arms, and arranged them in a sloping, broken circle. I then proceeded to dressing myself up in my mom's old prom dress and a flower crown, placed myself in center of my fairy fortress, and left the circle, leaving the flower crown at the center of my stick creation.

______I'll have to recreate this at college on critique day, but this was just the test of my idea. That being said, it's likely to change from now to then, 'cause I'm sure there will be something that could be improved with it in the scrutinizing eyes of my art teacher; we've still got a week to fine-tune things.

______Anywho, have a fabulous week, you snuggly bunch o' turds!

______(Snuggly bunch of turds? I mean that in the best way possible).

Hi Ali, so happy to have you back on the blogosphere, hope the start of college is going well. I am completely enchanted by these beautiful images, it looks like part of a dreamy fashion editorial. Your mum's dress is stunning, so feminine and love the pretty floral crown. Your new art class sounds amazing with a truly visionary teacher, I know that with your great talent, you are going to excel at it. Terrific concept, this is the stuff A's are made of :)

Hands down one of your most artistic and visually arresting posts yet Ali! I like what this art teacher is inspiring (er, scaring?) you to do. Haha, the floral crown, old prom dress, and circle of sticks create some interesting photos. I especially like your poses too :)
Anyway, happy to see you back on the blogosphere. Although as a fellow college student, I totally understand not being such a consistent blogger when classes get tough. Just keep at it! Your readers and snuggly ole turds will always be here waiting for you :P

That is a pretty cool installation - and i can see how it might be difficult to create art you know is going to be destroyed, because when we think of art, we often think of stuff that transcends the ages, stuff that winds up in museums, in text books and reprinted on any object you can dream up.

This professor of yours sounds pretty awesome.

When I saw this on Facebook, I got really excited. Like ridiculously giddy to see your latest post. Sadly, the wedding extravaganza got in the way of me checking your blog so I didn't see it until today, but I DIED. You are amazing. These are some brilliant, artsy photos right here, my dear. You really have a way of creating some breathtaking works of art...I'm pretty jealous of your talent. Good luck with your cray cray week, boo thang. I will definitely be looking up in the sky, sending blog friend love your way:)

I feel like the description of the assignment, "Something that will never be viewed the same way twice. An experience opposed to something that is made to last, like a painting or a sculpture." is a statement that describes you and your blog! I always love visiting to see what beautiful art, outfits, or writings you come up with next :) What a great idea for a project and it came out looking ethereal and lovely. Plus, that's your mother's old prom dress?! What a perfect, flowy dress for your vision! Love it, and I'm sure your professor will too :)

Ah, Ali. So glad to see you're still alive haha! I saw this breathtaking post last weekend and instantly fell in love with your project and your gorgeous look.

Bahaha, I totally feel you and the 10 pm bedtime. I try to get in bed by 10 each night too, but I've been going at it much later lately. We'll trek through this crazy life together haha.

The project sounds intriguing--I am a quasi-artist, so I know the intrinsic attachment to pieces you've poured your soul into creating. I never really thought of it as a negative thing, though I see now that it can be. You executed this project so well--I love the fairy tale like photos and your beautiful outfit. That prom dress is so pretty--your momma has good taste! Haha and I'm always in love with flower crowns.

Best of luck with everything Ali! Let us know how the project goes!

Ali, You look like you floated down from the heavens! I love the ephemeral feel of your mum's prom dress and the ring of flowers around your head. You should be inside the art piece too. You would be temporal in that sense too.
