Old, Wise, and Without Compromise

Compromise3

______I wonder how long most of us will continue with our blogging. At what age will it be time to say, "Au revoir, blogosphere"? When we're forty, fifty? When our kids have blogs and dogs and possibly even (god forbid) the iPhone 43s?

______So when do we stop?  The answer is never!

Compromise7Compromise2

______Through thick and thin, through work and the stress of life, through chocolate and coffee, I hope that my blogging never comes to a halt.  I plan on blogging up until my rocking chair years, probably alongside most of you ladies, and we'll all be cantering about our old folks home thinking of ways to wreck havoc on the place.  You know, dastardly old lady tasks, like plugging men's urinals full of poker chips, shuffling our slippers against the carpet until we become charged with lightning sparks that zap our aged enemies into static-y statuettes, and starting food fights by flinging our mush-food at each other from spoons pulled back like slingshots.

______Simple old folk pleasures, really.

Compromise8Compromise6Compromise9

______All the while, I'm sure we'll be an attractive gang of living fossils, what with our saggy breasts, skin flecked with grey specks and wrinkled like plastic bags, and wispy hair that resembles dried-out marshmallow fluff.  With good looks on our side, we'll no longer fear trying a new trend, whether it be fish-net bodysuits, coconut bras, or shiny belly rings that peek shyly from our cobweb-laden bellybuttons.

______By then, we will have become so accustom to dragging our tripods around and surreptitiously snapping selfies that we will no longer fear intercepting the public eye.  Young whippersnappers will look at us strangely, and we will waggle our jewel-topped canes at them shouting how they know nothing about vintage fashion.  And rather than shying away to alleyways and abandoned buildings, we will feed off the energy radiating from these onlookers' perplexed faces, snapping photos on sidewalks congested with businesspeople and tourists alike.  We will dress ourselves bravely in neon yellow jumpsuits and those Jesus sandals with straps that pinch the skin hanging over our ankles.

______We're gonna be hands-down rad, you guys.

Compromise10Compromise11

______It's weird to think that the styles we are wearing now will be melted down and reforged into something similar but different to future fashion trends in another twenty years, then another forty, or possible even a hundred.  But thus is life, one infinite cycle of cycles and old people.

______What do you see yourself wearing in another few decades?

Don't forget wheel chair races down the hallways!! Personally, when I'm old I'm going to dye my hair pink and blue, drive a huuuuge pickup truck, have at least one cat in the passenger seat, and flip people off just for the funs. Hehehehehemuahahaha

But yeah, I have thought about what blogging will be like for us when we're old. I mean, we're really the first generation experiencing this sort of thing, so no one really knows what will happen.

(And to answer your question, I'm hoping to wear things that hearken to Zenon. Because I always dressed like her when I was little and I need an excuse to do so again.)

Hahahaha, I think it would be great to be a big bunch of geriatric fashion bloggers. Dressing with abandon, piling on every accessory I own (which by that age, I'll have a metric ton) clashing colors and styles in way that only an old lady can. It will be something to look forward to.

coconut bra! I want one now (i'll keep it until I'm old, and bring it back out when it comes 'in style'.)
Nice post ali, I don't think i'll stop blogging, but when I leave 'Nam I'm worried I'll have to change the name of my blog cos ppl might wonder what the 'pho' connection is... but, I shall continue.
Your socks are so cute the way they match your jewels! xox

OMG I could seriously not stop laughing at this post! You are so funny and witty. I have actually asked myself this very question so many times. Like how long would I really plan on doing this? I'm already a mother in my 30's--is that lame? But I love it! You have inspired me to keep trucking until my memory slips and I start posting 43 times a day.

I'm already getting tired of blogging. If I didn't have to go to work then I'd be super stoked about it! I don't think my blog will make it to the rest home lol.

I think I'll probably be wearing a lot of elastic waisted pants when I'm old!

This post definitely made me laugh out loud- you are so hilarious! To be perfectly honest I try not to think about when I'll stop blogging or stop using Facebook or Instagram etc... I just try to live in the moment and enjoy what makes me happy right now. But I do hope that I continue to blog and build relationships with lovely ladies like you who I've met online. More than anything, blogging gives me a new perspective on someone's life and lets me in to others' interests and styles. It makes me inspired and I hope to always be inspired by something, no matter how old I am!

Ah, Ali! I feel like you always touch on topics I like to ponder. I've always wondered when I would stop blogging, but right now, I agree with you! I'd like to say never (: Your writing is so witty and thoughtful--I've always enjoyed that about your blog!

It is so funny though. One year fringe is in, then it's out. Or short hair and long hair. It's the cycle of fashion--and life! I hope I'm wearing some super, well, RAD things in the future haha. I like to experiment with trends judiciously, so I can't wait to see what's in store for us!

As for your loveliness, this outfit is so well balanced! Your socks and statement necklace and earrings, your belt and boots. Ah! I'm mighty impressed. You are just the chicest thing, dear Ali!

Have a beautiful weekend!

It's always fun reading how you think. So hilarious! That would be something gracefully elderly fashion bloggers, I wonder what poses would be the talk of the town then, haha. Love your necklace set, and the deep red/burgundy colours in your outfit. :) /Madison xo

One things for sure I DO NOT want to be lamb dressed as mutton, that's the only style thing I foresee hahaha and I wouldn't mind living under the same roof as you when I'm elderly. Throwing food at each other, pranking the other male residents. That sounds like so much fun LOL. And I'll definitely be blogging right there with you (I hope!)

Omgsh, picturing old ladies snapping selfies blogger style...bhahaahaha! I hope we end up at the same retirement home Ali...I have a feeling you'd keep me young :P
Hmmmm, and that's a good question, thinking about what I'd wear in a few decades...honestly, I have a feeling I'd go full blown bohemian. You know, feathers in the hair, maxi skirts, beaded jewelry, fringed details, EVERYTHING. I love it so much, and I would of course have to throw in a few spikes here and there.
Anyway, I love those polka dot red socks, and also your matching statement necklace!
Keep up your blogging girl, you know I'll be doing the same! :)

Hahaha I'll be one of those stylish old ladies with cool hats and whatnot. I always wonder about when/if I'll stop blogging. It could just be a matter of evolving the blog into whatever I want to blog about in the future. Who knows!

Anyway, this white dress looks fantastic on you. You're rocking those polka dot socks too! You're so good at pairing socks with your outfits. It always looks super cute!

You bring up such an interesting thought! I've often thought about when my 'vintage' clothing is going to be something that turns into 'old fashioned' rather than the 'quirky' that it is now. At 30? 40 perhaps? I probably still won't care what others think about me so perhaps I won't notice, haha. I'll likely have kids by then telling me I'm uncool anyway right? :)
Also, have you read the blog advanced style? I want to be like some of these people who just wear whatever they please!
http://advancedstyle.blogspot.com/

I adore this combination you are wearing. Your necklace is a stunning color with your cream dress and it matches the socks!! Eee I love it.

And the urinal comment, haha I can't take it!!

Flipping through your blog, I couldn't help but notice the amazing collection of shoes you have! I mean, they are stunning!

The boots you're wearing in this outfit post are no exception! I love them! They pair beautifully with the dress and the polka dot socks peeking out from the top are so adorable. <3 Very well done!

Thank you so much for the sweet comment you left on my blog, also! I really appreciate it! You're welcome back any time!

Cheers!

I'm very happy to know that you'll be here for the long term. I plan on doing the same. I can definitely tell that will be the case because I've always made it such a priority no matter what's happening in my life. I sure hope you're right that the fear of taking photos in public will be reduced. It sure is interesting to think about what other styles we will be wearing far from now. Knowing me, with such a fear of change, it will probably be exactly the same. You look very beautiful, those little socks are just too cute. Love to you Ali.

I don't plan on stopping blogging until I forget due to dementia :)

It's so funny, I have actually had that same thought about what I will be wearing "decades from now" before. I can say, honestly, that I will still love color and always gravitate towards it, but it will be interesting to see how my style evolves. I will always be unique, that's for sure! (I've always said, I'll be that crazy lady who wears whatever she wants, even if it's not "age appropriate" haha!). I will love bows and lace and quirky insects prints, forever!!! muwhahahaha.

Love this post though, really got me laughing :D

And as always, you look absolutely lovely Ms. Ali. Just darling in this gorgeous dress and necklace..classic, beautiful, so well put together. You are just too lovely!!! Hope you are having a wonderful week so far :)
