Fairy Circle

______Hello, my precious and darling citizens! It feels as if I've been gone for decades; alas, I have apparently only been missing for half a fortnight!

______I've been bustling with activity this past week, and thus my days have blended into nights and back into days again. I've even been (gasp) staying up past my bedtime of ten o' clock. Yeah, when my bedtime is interrupted, shit gets real. I've practically been living in the art buildings on campus. There's even a couch nested against a vending machine on the third floor in case I ever feel the need to have a one-man slumber party. Let's hope that never becomes a conclusion to my pitiful artist lifestyle.





______So, all that you see here is essentially for a drawing class.

______....Yeah, what? How does this have anything to do with a drawing class? I was a tad bit confused about it, too. The class is called Drawing Concepts, and my teacher is a rad art dude, a man who I fear, admire, and respect at the same time. This class has been reigning all things synonymous with havoc on my puny little mind, and after trying out a truckload of weird things and scrawling pages upon pages of ideas for this assignment, I have finally conceptualized this performance-slash-temporary-installation piece.

______We are to create a work that's ephemeral--think Andy Goldsworthy and his installations tempered entirely from things found in nature, or perhaps you've heard of the famed Spiral Jetty sand sculpture. Temporary works. In the moment. Something that will never be viewed the same way twice. An experience opposed to something that is made to last, like a painting or a sculpture.



______"Something you won't get attached to, since people become too attached to the things they create, opposed to the process of the creation," is essentially what my art teacher said to explain such a mind-boggling piece of temporary art. After having a couple nights of sweaty dreams over this assignment, a feasible idea finally found its way into my mind (via a sweaty dream, nonetheless). I drove home eagerly this morning, stabbed some sharped sticks into the ground, courtesy of my dear father's strong mustache and stronger arms, and arranged them in a sloping, broken circle. I then proceeded to dressing myself up in my mom's old prom dress and a flower crown, placed myself in center of my fairy fortress, and left the circle, leaving the flower crown at the center of my stick creation.

______I'll have to recreate this at college on critique day, but this was just the test of my idea. That being said, it's likely to change from now to then, 'cause I'm sure there will be something that could be improved with it in the scrutinizing eyes of my art teacher; we've still got a week to fine-tune things.

______Anywho, have a fabulous week, you snuggly bunch o' turds!
