Dreaming of Sugarplums

______Humidity and heat are beginning to permeate the Alabama air: in just a matter of weeks, the flowers will start to brown and curl at the edges like burnt toast, sprinklers will hiss and spit at lawns to keep them at their greenest, and even shady areas will be uncomfortably warm to leisure beneath midday.

______Wasps are becoming more and more plentiful and darting around diabolically like the vile winged beasts they are. They are plotting in their tiny cheese-like combs of homes, readying their armies to infiltrate earth with another early attack of buzzing, stinging, dive-bombing, and other similar unpleasantries.

______My dog is already wagging his tail slower whenever I mention the word "walk?" because he knows it means setting paw upon the hellish landscape that is the searing concrete streets of our neighborhood. And unless the path we walk is shady and cool, he basically stands by and says, Nah, I'm good, bruh. He also knows the warmer weather means wasps, and though many dogs avoid these flying red villains, my dog does not; rather than shying away from those nasty buggers, he approaches them with an air of nonchalance, then either pounds his paws on them, sticks his nose at them, or straight-up eats them whole.

______Bless his soul. May he one day learn.

______Not gonna lie, most of the time during summer, I'm dressed in a loose top that lets my armpits breathe the sweet air of freedom, some blinding neon shorts that scream "traffic cone," and keep my hair up in a ponytail. Kind of sort of exactly like those workout moms who shop at the grocery store after their morning yoga classes. You know the ones: they've got sunglasses on their heads, a matching Lululemon set, a baby cradled in one hand, and a cart being pushed by the other.

______So today instead of being a yoga workout mom, I tried to up the casual with minute, shiny details so maybe I can be a little more exciting, kind of like a pineapple covered in glitter. I am a strong believer in that dressing up makes you feel better no matter what. Heck, I bet wasps wouldn't be such jerkwads if they just put on some glittery headbands once in a while.

Love your lilac skirt with the matching earrings!
I recently bought a lilac lipstick to match all my lilac clothes!
I think lilac is such a nice pastel color!

*shutters* Wasps! I hate them! I've only been stung once but it was enough to teach me that I had a mild allergy that landed me in the dr office with a hot, swollen, red leg. Gross.

Poor puppies! I have just started running with our puppy (youngest of our three dogs) in the mornings and I enjoy it so much. Colorado sidewalks don't get near the glorious heat as you southerners do.

In other news--this top IS ADORABLE!!!

OMG THIS CROP TOP THOOOO <333
And haha you are definitely my favorite glittery pineapple Ali :D
So real quick, before I get sidetracked, have you heard about the glitter freckle trend? Your glittery pineapple reference totally made me think of it and you should try it - it'll only enhance your natural fairy state even more!
Ahem.
Anyway, bless your poor, sweet dog. He's probably trying to devour the wasps before they get to you. He just knows the fairy princess must be defended at all costs!

A pineapple covered in glitter sounds like a very good idea.

Love your choker necklace and headband. Living in the tropics kind of saps my energy for finding creative ways to describe heat, but you do it well. :)

Those glittery shoes are fantastic! I'm not looking forward to humidity.

It can be a challenge to find a look that keeps you as cool and comfortable as it does cute, and I can't imagine dealing with that much heat right now... I'm happy if it's 68 and not raining.
Maybe you should get your dog some booties so he can traverse the pavement with out getting burned!

You are the fairest of the fair fairy princesses! I agree with LyddieGal, Gunner should definitely be attired in manly boots for his paws! Good luck keeping them on, though. My dog just stands there and gives me 'the look' when I attempt to clothe her in booties! She ain't having it, that's for sure.

PS, 1st post deleted due to auto spell check making a snafu!

Hello, hello Ali! I've been gone for quite a bit, but it was so lovely to come back to the sweet encouragement you last left me and also the wonderful news that you're off to grad school in an entirely new place! HUGE congrats for taking such a big step, and for securing such a great package--having tuition covered, being a TA, and having a scholarship is such an incredible accomplishment. You, go girl! The funky weather may take some getting used to, but it'll be so worth it to explore a new place. That's one of the reasons I left the Midwest to go to school in New England. It was a tough adjustment, but I love my school dearly now. I can't wait to see what you'll accomplish in Iowa!

As for your outfits, I'm so in love with the pastels of the Dustyland Fairytale look. The pieces were meant for each other, and the gold accents really do complete the look. I especially like that fabulous, swingy tassel necklace! The pieces in this look also go so well together--I love the mix of sweet and edgy with the lavender skirt and black choker. I also confess that I usually lounge around in comfy clothes at home though, haha.

Anyways, sending much love always. I hope you summer is going wonderfully!

Those shoes are incredible!! I am looking forward to warm summer weather, we had a glimpse of it the other week, but now for some reason it is freakishly cold. You look great and I am loving this whole outfit!

you're on to something. Let's make miniature glitterly hair accessories for wasps, it might improve their temper:)...I can't believe your dog eats them:)...I love bees but I kind of hate wasps. I once let one bite on my leg out of sheer scientifice curiousty ( I wondered what it was doing and why)...the only conclusion is that it hurts when a wasp bites you, not as much when she stings but still...don't let a wasp bite you!

you look stunning....love the skirt and top...and once again amazing shoes.
