Honeycomb, wood, 15"x15"x22", 3D Design, Spring 2013
______This was my first project in 3D Design for the semester! It's essentially a big, wooden honeycomb structure, and to make it, I had to use a loud bunch of manly power tools. I had to miter pieces upon pieces of wood together to make a bunch of hexagons; then, to make the triangles, I had to cut pieces from wood on the bandsaw and sand them down on the wheel sander. With all this newfound knowledge of dudebro machinery, I could probably build a house. A really, really awful house. Or maybe just something that'd be a step up from my starving artist hobo box.
______My teacher was so lovely as to put this in a local art show displaying student work, so that was incredibly flattering! He described me as a hard worker and a badass, and I'm pretty sure that's one of the highest compliments a teacher can give you.
______He's a pretty rad teacher--just the other day, when I was showing him my design plans for the next project, he saw my Legend of Zelda wallpaper and said, "Wait, is that from Zelda?" and when I nodded a "yeah," he continued, "That's awesome. I thought I saw a rupee. Or a skulltula." So, besides being fellow geeks, I'm pretty sure we're going to be best friends.

That is so cool! You are really talented, that's so cool and how nice of your teacher! He sounds pretty awesome! :)
I'm obsessed - I saw this on your Flickr and loveddd it. Because I'm stalking you on Flickr now too :p. I remember doing wood work in college - our project was not as cool at all ( http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/81_528254511775_1426_n.jpg <-- that's the picture, I sadly can still tell you mine is the top right one shaped mildly like a boomerang. And that those things took FOREVER and for me at least are now trash) But annyyyhoowww I'm jealous you got to do something cool - and did an awesome job with it. I also alwaysss made a mess staining things. It's rough, but now that I know how to do it, I wanna stain my bed one day or something fun. Your artwork really is impressive and I can't wait to see more.
Oh. And I'm even more happy to hear your a gamer. And that you get along with your professor. That's really awesome. I found few I liked and was close with.
Wow! I'm for the first time on your blog! You are very talented. Well done.

Very cool 3D art piece. I love that you used dudebro machinery to make it! I'm sure I'd be scared and have to really suck it up in order to use all those things that could cut my hand off. Congrats on getting it put in a local art show. That's so cool!
this is so great! i never took 3d in school but sometimes i wish i did because it looked like so much fun! glad i found this blog— loving it!
This one is really cool! Did you have to stain the wood and all yourself also? It looks beautiful-would look wonderful as a piece of art in a home, or shop-or anywhere! Fun that you have things in common with your professor-it's always great to find a fellow nerd! haha.
your honeycomb is super awesome. I would want honeycomb on jewelry, and prints on clothes. it would be cool.
Your teacher sounds like a really good one, and I'm glad you got such a positive compliment.

That is sooo awesome! At first I thought this post was about you visiting an art exhibition or something. So glad your teacher put your work in the local art show, it looks incredible :)All the triangles and hexagons and using machinery sounds so complicated but the outcome is so amazing. haha love what your teacher said about your wallpaper, he sounds like a really cool teacher.
