A Cicada Story

Cicada Aerial ViewCicada2

______I happened to come across this little guy this past weekend whilst riding my bike. Actually, "little" probably isn't the best way to describe him, for he was quite large and could have been mistaken for a bird or Godzilla or something as equally large (and ferocious, obviously). Anyway, this formidably-sized cicada didn't really move at all since I was able to pass by him three times and still pinpoint his location each time... so naturally I had to bring him home for some picture-taking.

______And my oh my, was he ever a fabulous model, this cicada-san. Such a good model! Probably because he was half dead, weakened by the sun's hot rays, and was forced to endured some 6+ bumpy miles in the Solo cup on my bike... but hey, he still made for a swell model, yeah?

______Eheh. Whoops.

______No worries. He's merrily resting on a tree now. He'll recuperate. Honest.

Your macro lens is awesome! and i love that you scooped him up and carried him home for a photo-op.
did you use any external lighting for the shots?

Wow. You actually made me not wince from fear with these pictures. :) I'm notoriously afraid of insects, so I'm surprised I didn't slam my laptop shut at these pics! XD
They actually look really cool close-up. Though not gonna lie, I don't think I'd ever wanna be near one. :\

Insects freak me out when I think about how damn scary they will be lifesize but you can't deny that they are truly beautiful up close and relatively small compared to us as they are. :)

Goodness Ali, have you ever entered any of your photos in a competition? Because YOU NEED TO!!!
These closeups are just stunning. I never thought I'd say that about a bug, but it's true. The details are so crisp and clear. He really does make quite the model. Aha, hope he survives!
