Oxford Scholar

______I won these snazzy oxfords the other week from a DuoBoots giveaway; they're an astounding company in the UK specializing in leather shoes that are absolutely gorgeous and I feel compelled to tell everyone about them. Plus, these oxfords smell great. After unwrapping them from their smokey purple box, I spent a whole minute pressing them to my face and inhaling their dusky, rich scent like I could experience hallucinogenic side effects.

______(I didn't.)

______I had another encounter with the mysterious Northern Lights biker, too. He came zipping along, a symphony of blinking lights as was his surefire signal, and I prepared myself for some raucous vocals and blatant arm flapping. As if on cue, he immediately veered to the center of the road at the sight of me and lifted his arms like a poised eagle atop a totem poll.

______This guy. Seriously.

______This time around, instead of letting Northern Lights have the first word, I was going to be the one to break the silent hum of cicadas that infested the area. I lifted my arms into the air, made magic finger motions, and sputtered, "You're going to the wrong waaaaaay!" like the insolent little turd I was.

______He guffawed at my taunt, but did not reply to it. Rather, he shouted back completely unfazed, "You've finally got a light on the front of your bike! I CAN SEE YOU!"

______Northern Lights bellowed a deep laugh and zoomed merrily past me. He carried on with his ride as if he was a very satisfied father who just witnessed his adversary neighbor trim too much off a hedge, thus rendering him cul-de-sac's yard champ of the week. It was true what he said, though. I always have had a light on the back of my bike, but now I had one on the front, too. It blinked just like Northern Lights' did to warn cars that I was present and vulnerable on my bike. Was that what has been bothering him all along? It surely couldn't have been, because long ago he was shouting at me for going the wrong way. Or was he merely furious that he was the one going in the opposite direction this time around?

______The world may never know.

Hahah, maybe someday you and Northern Lights will decide to meet for a coffee after your bike rides, you will have a chat, and mysteriously still figure out nothing.

Love the new oxfords, I too enjoy the scent of new leather. So lovely.

Man, how come I never win awesome oxfords like that? (Possibly because I'm too lazy to enter contests....)
That's hilarious that you ran into him yet again!

Ahaha you always have the best stories to tell us.

In other news, those shoes you won are so awesome! Hooray for winning! I love the socks you paired with them. You're the queen of wearing patterned socks. I always wish I had more socks so I can style some like you do. Also your earrings are da bomb.

Such a cute combo. Looks simple enough, but I think what makes it is all the little details in the belt buckle and socks. Love!

Gasp, so PRETTY! It amazes me that you can wear fancy jewelry like that and make it look so non-chalant, like you're a mystical princess and that is just your every day attire.
I have a few jewels I always want to break out but decide against because I always think them too fancy!
And I adore those oxfords!! (obviously)
I love to smell new things too, haha, especially if they're nice and leathery and such. These are such a perfect mix of neutral and unique, I can't get enough!

I do hope you have an actual conversation with your mystery rider someday. He no doubt has a personality which could rival yours and I'm sure you would have some most interesting conversations.
Have a happy day, darling!

Once again, I really need to not be eating or drinking or consuming food products when I read your blog. They always end up coming out through my nose. ever. damn. time.

First things first: Happy belated birthday!! 21 is a milestone age, but I completely agree with what you said about alcohol--that's exactly how I feel. And I would totally love to meet your grandmother--she sounds like a fabulous person :) Also loving the lithographs--you have this certain ethereal and distinctive style, and these fossil floaters are no exception. Simply intriguing!

As for this look, winning things is the best! Especially nice and stylish things :)Those oxfords are so unique and match flawlessly with your cute belt! I like how you made a few basics speak volumes. And of course your attention to detail is stunning--those earrings match so well!

I love how you beat Northern Lights to it this time haha. I totally agree with the other commenters--it'd be so fun if you guys had a conversation.

Have a beautiful week, Ali!

Seriously, I just want to visit Alabama to track down this Northern Lights dude and ask him what his deal is. Haha, seriously, all I can respond to that tale is: "Um, whaaa?"
I hope there are more little tales on him and his bizarre antics!
Anyway, these oxfords are PERFECT for you Ali, I'm so glad you won them! :D
You look so snazzy with the checkered socks too. This whole outfit is quite collegiate and pretty. And oooh, your hair is doing something new! Haha I feel like I get lazy with my hair and keep it down or do side braids and that's it -_- Perhaps I'll be more inspired before shoots to do something fancy. Or just different at least...

So funny. I was just thinking about this Northern Lights guy and whether there would be a part 2 when I saw and liked your instagram photo which depicts you cycling and true enough, you wrote about it!

Weet on winning the oxfords. I can imagine the heavenly smell fresh from the box. I would do the same too. I love your hair!!! Why are they in such gorgeous 2 tones of curls?

Those shoes made my jaw literally drop. They're amazing! New follower here, it's great to see a fellow artist & fashion blogger (although does it count if you haven't done any art in a really long time? Maybe) in the wild! Looking forwards to more of your posts :)
